Sealing Pipes, Preventing Leaks Operators who seal pipes are likely familiar with the issues that prompt sealing in the first place: leaking, thread galling, vibration loosening. 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Pipe Sealant PS77 was engineered to combat those issues, preventing leaks and corrosion in pipes by strengthening bonds between pipe threads. This specially-formulated sealant has some unique characteristics that make it a good match for pipe sealing. First, the thixotropic properties of 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Pipe Sealant PS77 inhibit it from moving or flowing away from the thread; it stays static and thickens when it's applied to the metal surface. Additionally, the high viscosity (low flow) of the sealant prevents it from moving or spreading after it's been applied. In short, once the sealant hits the steel, it's designed to stick and stay. The sealant also lubricates the threads, so their coatings don't wear away when twisted together
